Girls born into poor families in Nepal face many challenges, such as poverty, discrimination, forced marriage and domestic abuse. But for girls with disabilities, life is even harder and the risks much greater.

Many girls with disabilities spend their lives in isolation, unable to communicate with those around them. They cannot report abuse or access support.

Inequality and discrimination in schools means that teachers are often not willing to help, or they don’t know to support their needs. Sadly, this means that most girls with disabilities will never reach their potential or escape poverty.

It’s not right. It’s not fair. But with your help, it CAN change.

Donate now and help another girl at risk get essential support. You will also get a VSO pin badge to wear proudly and show the world that you are a changemaker.

Help vulnerable girls in Nepal who are missing out on an education

In Nepal, girls from poor families are forced to leave school early without completing their education. For many, the next step is marriage. It’s not their choice. Sadly, girls with disabilities like Izna*, often find that schools won’t even take them as teachers are not equipped to support their needs.

Izna was born deaf and has lived a deeply isolated life. She was enrolled in a school but was forced to leave because her teachers couldn’t communicate with her. Even though she is bright and eager to work, she was forced to stay at home, cooking, cleaning and feeding the cattle. With no one to teach her sign language, Izna made up her own signs, but she was unable to communicate with anyone outside her family.

Izna could have continued living in complete isolation, but thanks to supporters like you Izna is now attending a class designed to help girls back into education.

How you can make a difference for generations of girls to come

Young girls are facing gender inequality and even forced marriage and domestic abuse. Girls with disabilities also face discrimination and bullying by teachers and students. It’s not right. It’s not fair.

You can help us reach more vulnerable girls who are denied their chance to an education. VSO volunteers help protect girls with disabilities by helping them stay in school longer where they gain skills and confidence to break the cycle of poverty. Every girl who goes back into education and builds their livelihood sends a powerful message to other girls and the whole community.

By donating to VSO you are helping generations of vulnerable girls build a better future. Your gift could help girls build the skills, resources and knowledge they need to help lift themselves out of poverty.

Please donate today and become part of the change you want to see. Be a changemaker.

We value every gift that you give, and will always put it straight to work as quickly as we can. In 2022-23, 87p of every £1 you gave went directly towards tackling poverty worldwide. 13p was spent on the day-to-day running of the charity and raising the next £1 so that we can help even more people this year.
