Be a changemaker: join our movement working for a fairer world

Thank you for speaking to one of our fundraisers and for wanting to find out more about VSO.

Why make a monthly donation

VSO has supported Vivian, 25, a single mother of two children, to start her own small business with an investment of 20,000 Kenyan shillings.

We believe that it is possible to build a better, fairer world if we work together. But COVID-19 has set us back, and last year significant cuts were made to the UK aid budget. We urgently need regular donations to make sure we can be there for people in the future.

Our vision is to create a fair world for those left out by society - those living in extreme poverty, or with disability and illness, and those who face discrimination for their gender, sexuality or social status. With your support, we can unlock the power of people to make a difference which lasts for generations. We need your donation to fund this change, help more people and make a lasting difference.

We know that simply sending money can’t make the kind of lasting changes we all want to see. So, we unlock the power of people, bringing together volunteers who share know-how and skills to create a “ripple effect” that brings about generational change.

You can be right at the heart of changing lives for the better and creating a fair world for everybody. Together, we can make a lasting change, all around the world. Together, we are changemakers.

Meet Baano and find out how your monthly gift could empower other girls like her to get into education

Around the world, girls with disabilities are being denied their right to an education. With a shortage of properly trained staff, inaccessible schools, and lack of appropriate learning resources, girls face barriers at every turn. Many have no choice but to drop out of school. It’s not their choice, and the cycle of poverty continues. But your regular donation can bring about the change that we all want to see.

Baano is a 13-year-old living in rural Nepal. She is bright and eager to learn, yet, she has never been enrolled in a school as her parents couldn't keep up with the costs - books, uniforms, stationery. Every day, Baano could see children from her village heading off to school, but she had to stay at home and help her parents with the household chores. Without access to education and limited opportunities, Baano and her family would be trapped in a cycle of poverty.

With the support of kind people like you, Baano was assigned a Big Sister, who worked with her family and community. The ENGAGE project provided her family with financial support so they can purchase school books, uniforms and supplies. A monthly donation could support other girls like Baano to get back into education.

  • £25 per month could give another girl like Baano support from a Big Sister, who will work with her family and community.
  • £10 per month could provide another girl like Baano with school books, uniforms and supplies.
  • £5 per month could provide another girl like Baano with a learning kit.

Baano is now a grade three student in secondary school and is regularly attending classes. She could have continued living in complete isolation, but thanks to your support and the support of other people like you, she is now learning the vital skills she needs to break the cycle of poverty.

When you set up a regular donation to VSO, you become part of that long-term work to keep the world’s most vulnerable safe and learning. Donate now and become part of the change we all want to see.

Here is how every £1 is spent

Every £1 goes to: 88p tackling poverty, 12p raising the next £1

We value every gift that you give, and will always put it straight to work as quickly as we can. In 2021-22, 88p of every £1 you gave went directly towards tackling poverty worldwide. 12p was spent on the day-to-day running of the charity and raising the next £1 so that we can help even more people this year.

Keeping our commitments to communities, including women waste pickers

VSO’s funding has been reducing for a number of years, but now we are facing unprecedented pressures. In solidarity and with hope, your support means VSO can be there for more women waste pickers like Beth.
