Elizabeth with her 2 children

Will you help make sure women's hopes aren't thrown away this Christmas?

Women waste workers in Kenya work tirelessly to provide food, safety and a better future for their children. But their dreams are thrown away working on a rubbish dump the size of 20 football pitches.

It's not right. But with your help, it CAN change.

This Christmas, your gift can provide life-changing training and essential protective equipment to mothers. With your help, they can work more safely and earn a fair wage to afford food, clean water, and a brighter future for their children.

Donate now to help make sure women’s dreams aren’t thrown away.

Doreen, waste picker with her baby outside her house

Doreen, a mother of two, faces stigma and abuse for working as a waste picker. She has been physically attacked, and the community mocks her for doing “dirty” work. She works on Kenya’s rubbish dumps, but she barely earns enough to buy food or clean water. Despite it all, Doreen knows waste picking is her only way to provide for her children.

Pauline, outside her home in Kibera

Pauline lives in a tent on the dumpsite in Kibera, in harsh conditions without clean water or sanitation. Each day is a battle to find food, and she often goes to bed hungry. Despite constant discrimination, she dreams of leaving the dumpsite, finding a safe home, and starting a small business to support her family.

Elizabeth waste picker inside her home

Elizabeth is a mother of two, working on the hazardous dumpsites of Kenya. Every day, she risks injury from sharp objects and dangerous chemicals, all while earning just enough to feed her children. She dreams of giving her children a better life, but she is exploited by brokers who pay her less than they should.

Women waste pickers with Josephine, VSO volunteer.

VSO volunteers are on the ground, offering women life-saving training and connecting them to better opportunities. They are teaching women how to sort waste more effectively, so they can earn a fair wage for their hard work. Volunteers are also providing essential protective equipment, like gloves and boots, helping women work safely in the dangerous conditions of the dumpsites.

With your help, more women can get urgent help. Your donation will not only equip them with vital protective equipment but also empower them with the skills and support they need to improve their lives. With your help, they can earn a fair wage, and build a safer, brighter future for themselves and their families.
