Jyoti, school student in Nepal

Sponsor a Volunteer. See the difference you can make.

Young girls from poor families, like Jyoti, who lives in rural Nepal, are often discriminated against. They're forced to leave school, marry and have children at a young age, all because of their gender. They don't know what rights they have or where to turn for help.

Jyoti's parents wanted her to stop going to school so she can marry. It wasn't right, and it was not her choice.

Jyoti attended VSO-led school interventions where she learned what her rights are. A VSO expert volunteer taught her to identify harmful social norms, communicate clearly and protect herself against child marriage. She stood up to her parents and is now continuing her education.

But there are many other girls like Jyoti we need to reach. Will you sponsor a volunteer who can teach children and young girls how to spot and combat harmful practices? Be part of an incredible movement fighting to end child marriage.

Each child attending the VSO-led school interventions becomes an ambassador for positive transformation in peer groups and community.

One in four women in rural Nepal experience gender-based violence during their lifetime.*

The mental trauma that girls and women go through has long-term effects on their essential health, well-being, and sense of security and self.

VSO in Nepal aims to reach over 13,000 girls, boys and couples and nearly 14,000 family members with vital response services and prevention activities to challenge harmful social norms and reduce violence against women and girls.

Adolescents are encouraged to engage in conversations around gender and social inclusion, child marriage, domestic violence, trafficking and sexual violence. They also discuss issues around family planning, early-age pregnancy and safe pregnancy, sexual and reproductive health rights, gender equality and equitable gender roles.

There are many more children we need to reach. From one student to an entire classroom, you can create a ripple of change that will last for generations to come. Will you sponsor a volunteer today?
