Girls born into poor families in Nepal face many challenges, such as poverty, discrimination, forced marriage and domestic abuse. But for girls with disabilities, life is even harder and the risks much greater.
Many girls with disabilities spend their lives in isolation, unable to communicate with those around them. They cannot report abuse or access support.
Inequality and discrimination in schools, means that teachers are often not willing to help, or they don’t know to support their needs. Sadly, this means that most girls with disabilities will never reach their potential or escape poverty.
It’s not right. It’s not fair. But with your help, it CAN change.
Donate now and help another girl at risk get essential support. You will also get a VSO pin badge to wear proudly and show the world that you are a changemaker.
Help girls in Nepal who are missing out on an education

In Nepal, girls from poor families are forced to leave school early without completing their education. For many, the next step is marriage. It’s not their choice. Sadly, girls with disabilities like Rabina, often find that schools won’t even take them as teachers are not equipped to support their needs.
Every day, Rabina could see children from her village heading off to school, but she had to stay at home. Born with cerebral palsy, Rabina couldn’t walk with the other children and she didn’t have a wheelchair. Even if her parents had somehow managed to get her to school, it’s unlikely she’d have been welcomed. Sadly, in many communities in Nepal, having a disability is seen as a curse, and children like Rabina lead very isolated lives.
Rabina could have continued living in complete isolation, but thanks to supporters like you, she is now attending a bridge class designed to help girls who were forced out of schools start their learning.
Rabina was assigned a Big Sister, who worked with her family and community. Her needs were assessed and she was provided with a wheelchair and a toilet chair. In this way, she gained independence and dignity.
1.3 million girls are married before the age of 15.
How you can make a difference for generations of girls to come
Young girls are facing gender inequality and even forced marriage and domestic abuse. Girls with disabilities also face discrimination and bullying by teachers and students. It’s not right. It’s not fair.
You can help us reach more vulnerable girls who are denied their chance to an education. VSO volunteers help protect girls with disabilities by helping them stay in school longer where they gain skills and confidence to break the cycle of poverty. Every girl who goes back into education and builds their livelihood sends a powerful message to other girls and the whole community.
By donating to VSO you are helping generations of girls build a better future. Your gift could help girls build the skills, resources and knowledge they need to help lift themselves out of poverty.
Please donate today and become part of the change you want to see. Be a changemaker.
