Nepal Floods: Rebuilding lives

VSO Volunteers are helping communities devastated by the floods to rebuild in Nepal

Communities in Nepal have been devastated by flash floods. Over 1,400 people have died, with thousands more missing. People have lost family, friends, their homes and livelihoods.

From the beginning, local VSO volunteers have been  on the ground in flood-hit communities. They know every village, every family, every passable road because it’s their home too. In the weeks, months and years ahead, they’ll be there to help people recover and rebuild. But they can’t do it alone.

Please donate today to equip local volunteers as they help their communities rebuild after disaster >>

How local VSO volunteers help when disaster strikes

VSO doesn't fly people in when crisis hits. Our volunteers are already there. Local VSO volunteers live in communities affected by natural disasters like floods, earthquakes and wildfires. They’re able to help their neighbours before anyone else.

Because of their insights and knowledge, they can identify who needs help most: children, women, families, who've lost everything. They know what's needed - clean water, hygiene supplies, essential household items and shelter. And how to get it to people others can't reach.

But they can't do it without your help.

The days, weeks and months after a disaster are critical. Families need support to recover, rebuild and prepare for the future. Your donation delivers urgent relief in the immediate aftermath and the volunteers you equip will stay for the long-term. It’s their home too.

How your gift will help

  • £50 equips a volunteer with a kits for children to keep them safe and as healthy as possible at a time when they've lost almost everything else.
  • £85 could provide women with clothing, soap, toothpaste and other hygiene products – along with emergency accommodation giving them somewhere safe to stay.
  • £345 could set up mini schools so VSO volunteers can get children learning and safe whilst their schools are rebuilt.
  • £845 could build secure places where people – particularly mums and children – can stay safely whilst they start to rebuild their lives.

The need is urgent, and the people who can meet it are already there ready to volunteer. All they're waiting for is you.
