Role overview

The Youth Engagement Specialist will support the engagement and participation of young people in the design and implementation of action plans that promote community resilience and social cohesion.

To provide support National and community volunteers in design implementation of actions plans to promote community resilience and social cohesion.

To design and facilitate youth led dialogue process at various level and advocacy and youth participation.

Skills, qualifications and experience

The perfect candidate for this role has:

UK Diaspora with experience of working in Pakistan, ideally with a Pakistan Origin Card so you don’t require a visa to enter and work in Pakistan.

Bachelor or Master’s degree in social science, conflict studies, or a related discipline.

Experience of working with and providing support to 18-29 years olds from a wide range of backgrounds with proven ability to facilitate learning in a non-formal environment

2-3 years’ experience of working in development sector as a Youth Engagement Specialist.

Direct and substantial experience of working cross-culturally and able to communicate to a range of audiences and promote sharing and learning between cultures.

Knowledge of issues which are common to communities in Pakistan.

Experience of promoting learning about social issues.

Possession of strong verbal communication in English language to work effectively and inclusively with an overseas colleague. Strong written communication skills needed for writing reports in English language.

Experience of working in a supervisory role. Proven ability to promote self-awareness, learning and development among individuals.

Able to develop clear and realistic plans to deliver agreed objectives within deadlines, involving key individuals in the planning process.

Strong computer skills with expertise in MS Office (MS Word, Excel, Power Point)

Understanding of local dynamics and culture.

Desirable that the candidate is fluent in Spoken Urdu

Sufficient experience of working with volunteers to understand the key factors which make volunteer placements viable, effective and rewarding.

Due to the nature of the role, working with the Youth at the community level, and for quicker assimilation into the role candidates should have extensive experience working in Pakistan or holder of Pakistan origin card and does not require visa to enter and work in Pakistan.

Allowance and accommodation

All volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home.

VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
