What is VSO-RAISA?

The Regional AIDS Initiative of Southern Africa (RAISA), is a comprehensive programme that addresses the HIV and AIDS epidemic in the Southern Africa region. VSO-RAISA consists of projects across seven southern African countries – Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Lesotho – and includes a strong regional element.

At our core, VSO-RAISA strengthens the capacity of organisations to deal more effectively with the HIV and AIDS pandemic and to realise the rights of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. We achieve this primarily through working alongside highly skilled and experienced international volunteers. Together we work with partner organisations on a daily basis over an extended period of time. We organise a range of complementary activities, such as workshops, publications, exchanges and advocacy to enhance the capacity development efforts of our volunteers.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways you can make a real difference to people living in the toughest circumstances. Most people join us because they want to give something back and find they get much more in return.
