Horizontal learning
VSO-RAISA's regional approach allows for country-level governance and HIV/AIDS work to be shared and promoted in other countries. This is facilitated through exchange visits. The establishment of the community school at New Dawn of Hope (NDH) in Zimbabwe came about because of one such RAISA exchange; the NDH director visited a RAISA partner in Zambia and, upon returning, established a school for orphans and other vulnerable children on the grounds of the NDH office. A professionally trained local teacher is now providing two hours of schooling every weekday to 32 vulnerable children from Harare's high-density suburbs, who had been unable to access mainstream school due to fees and uniform costs.
