Clinton slams quality of life in Nigeria
27/01/2010
Overall quality of life among Nigeria's citizens has deteriorated in recent years, according to former first lady of the US and the nation's current secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
The politician claimed that corruption in the country has reached "unbelievable" levels and poor living standards are rife.
"There has to be a recognition that in the last ten years, a lot of the indicators about quality of life in Nigeria have gone in the wrong direction," she declared.
Ms Clinton made the comments during a state department meeting this week and also highlighted the recent case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab - the Nigerian who attempted to ignite explosives on a US flight in December.
The impoverished nation is at risk of breeding political extremists and something must be done to stem this problem both militarily and diplomatically, she suggested.
Hillary Clinton was granted her current role after her attempt to run against current US leader Barack Obama in the presidential elections failed.
