A project that will see researchers from a variety of countries gather to collaborate on HIV, tuberculosis and malaria will be established in Uganda, it has emerged.
The country has been chosen to house the headquarters of the clinical base, which is entitled the East African Consortium for Clinical Research (EACCR), the Ugandan publication the Daily Monitor reported.
It will be set up in the Uganda Virus Research Centre and will join scientists from ten countries, including Ethiopia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania, the UK and Uganda
Initially, £3.5 million will be invested into the operation.
Pontiano Kaleebu, director of the Uganda Virus Research Centre, told the news provider: "We hope that we can increase human capacity and infrastructure through collaboration and networking. It will also raise the quality of clinical research and practice in sub-Saharan Africa."
Meanwhile, Ugandan people living with disabilities in the sub-county of Katine were given health advice by the National Union of Disabled Persons earlier this month, reported the Guardian.
