South Africans 'believe being faithful protects against HIV'
25/01/2010
Increasing numbers of South Africans believe that remaining faithful to their partner will serve to protect them against contracting the HIV virus.
This is according to the results of the second National HIV and Aids 2009 survey, which was conducted in the country's nine provinces between June and August last year, the Independent Online quotes the South African Press Association as informing.
Overall, 39.1 per cent of respondents feel that faithfulness deters HIV, compared to 26 per cent during the previous year.
A total of 9,728 people aged between the ages of 16 and 55 answered the survey, the news provider added, something which involved face-to-face interviews, as well as questionnaires.
Meanwhile, the same news provider reported last week on a meeting held between over 100 government representatives at Pietermaritzburg's Royal Show Grounds.
They gathered to discuss how effective circumcision would be in combating the spread of HIV and AIDS.
