How we do it

Sharing good practice

LINKS (Learning through International Networking and Knowledge Sharing) are VSO activities that give people the chance to go to another country to learn and share good practice by visiting or working with organisations there. LINKS activities are aimed at VSO partners, often accompanied by staff.

The LINKS approach is based on the idea that learning between peers is a powerful way of helping people to look at their work in a new way.

LINKS currently supports:

  • Study tours: a group of participants visit a number of organisations in a different country. During a tour the group will see work in practice and have the chance to learn and share ideas
  • Work placements: opportunities to understand the work of a host in more depth by spending longer (usually three months), volunteering on a work placement with the host
  • Partnership links: longer-term relationships between different organisations that are working in a common focus area. The LINKS activities are not one-offs but form part of a long-term relationship between the organisations

Quotes

The study tour helped our organization to become a place where people like to come and learn. Lessons from Uganda have made us confident in our new work in training HIV&AIDS counselors. Our organisation has already trained 26 counselors from 10 organizations in Bangladesh and is facilitating the formation of a counselor's network.
